Once his passion for art was identified, Peter was assisted to work as an artist, gaining confidence and independence in himself and his abilities. With encouragement, he has 'opened' himself and his art to others, initiating discussion with people, entering solo art exhibitions, working as an artist with Arts Project Australia and now being commissioned to produce art for business and private clients as his work becomes known and his role as an artist continues to evolve.

Disability services and initiatives

annecto aims to increase social inclusion and citizenship rights for people with disability for sustainable, long-term outcomes. To achieve this, annecto also works with schools, TAFE, employers, community groups and more to include people with a disability.

annecto facilitates relationships with family and friends and the person's access to health, employment, suitable living arrangements, community participation, recreation and interests.

Our practice is underpinned by individual, person-centred approaches and community inclusion and development.

This includes:

  • Supporting Older Carers of a person with a disability

Providing carers with time out from their caring role and assisting people with a disability to overcome obstacles and achieve their dreams.

  • Learning Pathways at annecto David House

Over 50 years ago a small group of parents of children with a disability established what is now known as annecto David House in Yarraville.

annecto's Learning & Lifestyle initiative (formerly David House program) explores a person's right to identify and pursue their dreams into the future, supported by people who are important in their lives. Through participation with local schools, TAFE, employers, community groups and more, we help the person lead a full life.

  • Strengthening your network of supports with the people around you, to develop independence, choice and control

annecto plans proactively with people with a disability who would like to build a vision for the type of life they would like, or who wish to explore different support options, or are anticipating or experiencing important changes in their life.

What this means for you

It means making decisions about:

  • what you want from life,                                                                    Click here for information about
  • who will help you make it happen, and                                             annecto David House name change
  • how and where you will get the supports you need.

The type of support depends on you: you can get support from your family and friends, people in the community, and from disability services to meet your needs.

annecto will work with you to ensure that personal plans are developed and established to help you in your goals.

How do we do this?

Person- Centered Planning (PCP) is a process that places the individual at the centre of decision-making, treating family members as partners. promoting independence, flexibility and control to their lives.

It is a process for continual listening and learning, focusing on what is important to someone now and in the future.

This planning is based on the values of independence, choice and social inclusion, and involves:

  • listening and learning about a person's likes and dislikes
  • looking at a person's strengths and areas of improvement
  • discovering the person's gifts, skills and capacities
  • creating plans directed by the person
  • a positive approach that empowers and builds confidence
  • identifying key Circles of Support members to assist with planning and implementation

Circles of Support

  • The Circle of Support is a group of people who meet on a regular basis to help somebody they care about accomplish their personal goals
  • The circle can be as big or as small as the focus person desires. Circle members include family, friends and other community members who want to be involved because they care about the person
  • A Circle of Support helps to empower all of the circle members involved and reinforces independence for the person requiring the support
  • A circle can support a person requiring support in every area of their life, whether through work, social, recreational and faith relationships
