Volunteers like Make Lakatani provide invaluable support

Without volunteers, annecto wouldn’t be able to reach as many people as we do. annecto currently have 44 volunteers who connect people to other people and to their community.  We have social volunteers that accompany people to the football to see their favourite team play. Others make time to catch up and take people to an activity or event that they need support to attend, or simply have a coffee and catch up with on a regular basis.

Other volunteers, like Make Lakatani play an important role in allowing annecto to run programs such as the Speakers Bank program. Speakers Bank is comprised of professionally trained public speakers with personal experience of disability and ageing.  Speakers Bank raises awareness, acceptance and understanding of people with disability and older people through the power of communication.  Make’s dedication and support of Speakers Bank enables the program to reach a larger audience.

Make is compassionate, friendly, good natured and understands the needs of people with disabilities. Make performs a number of administrative support functions for Speakers Bank, such as making phone calls, typing, filing, photocopying and following up on email communications.  She also provides speaker support when required, and assists speakers with their presentations.

Outside of her voluntary work at Speakers Bank, Make is currently finishing her Diploma in Early Childhood Education, and works part-time at a kindergarten in Point Cook. Make is an active member of her Niuean community church and is the ‘glue’ that binds her family together.

Thank you Make, annecto’s Speakers Bank is lucky to have you!

This week is National Volunteers Week.  Thank you to all of you who volunteer for annecto.
